Comments on NHL's YouTube deals

This article disscusses the deal that the National Hockey League made with YouTube to highlight clips from the hockey games to boost fan interest. The NHL contract is noteworthy because it marks the first time a major sports league has embraced its technology. TV networks, sports leagues and others are very disrupted over the deal. The league also signed an agreement with YouTube where fans can access full- length archived NHL games.

I do not think that this is going to help the hockey league out at all. By posting all of these clips on Youtube it makes people not want to go to the game. Why would someone spend money on front row tickets to a hockey game when they can log on to YouTube and get the main action from the event with a better camera view. If the NHL wanted to make some money they could put a little bit of the clips on the website and then have a website address underneath that goes the the NHL website where they would have to go to view the rest of the video. Then when they were on the NHL website they could search around and maybe that would bring more attraction to the NHL.
